Blog Assignment

Written by Nathan on April 30, 2008 – 3:25 pm

I was walking the other day from the College Courts to Aquinas Hall and finally found myself able to clear my head.

Once this had been accomplished, everything looked different. The cars in the parking lots looked to me as though they were 3-D pictures, not actually there, but suspended in front of the view of the parking lot. This was strange to me at first, but I continued to walk and noticed that the campus at large had taken a surreal tone. The colors on the foliage seemed more vibrant than they had been mere days before. Everything seemed more real than it had recently been all while somehow seeming off.

blog assignment 1

Written by Linda on April 29, 2008 – 10:20 pm

I found this assignment to be a little difficult. I usually take notice of things well so it was hard to see something I haven’t already but I found a couple things. I was able to clear my mind after a while and maintain it for a couple minutes.

Visualization Exercise

Written by mark lewis on April 29, 2008 – 10:20 pm

Posted For John Carlson by MAL

When I took my dog Lucas for a walk around the block

I tried hard to empty my mind. I couldn’t do it for

Some reason, maybe it is because I was purposely trying.

I started observing each house good as I passed, and noticed

A couple of things I normally wouldn’t…Like if I listened hard I could hear

The sirens or the music from Front St. all the way across the river in Newburgh.

I maintained my curious state of mind until I circled the block and returned back home from the walk.

I think there is too many things going on right now in my life for me to clear my mind and be worry free.

I will try again tomorrow.

Portrait Related Exercises - Tech Exercise 4

Written by mark lewis on April 2, 2008 – 1:00 pm

Over the next two class you will be working independently. Take some time to review the chapters in Advanced Retouching and Special Effects in your Photoshop CS3 book. Choose one chapter from each section to complete in class. Print out your final versions and turn them in to me when you are done. You will receive two exercise credits for completing these chapters.

Note that you are expected to attend class as normal and I will be there to assist you as needed or to ad hoc lectures on problems or techniques common to all. Also note that some chapters have Video training, you may wish to watch these at home or bring headsets to watch the video in class.

Advanced retouching starts on Page 249 - Choose one chapter to complete

Special Effects begins on Page 375 - Choose one chapter to complete

Suggestion: Choose chapters that relate to something you might like to do to your photographs.

Note: If you have any part of the Portrait project contacts available for review, I will be happy to meet with you during these classes - you don’t have to wait for next Wednesday.

Blog Assignment 1 - Philip Emanuele

Written by Philip Emanuele on March 12, 2008 – 4:05 pm

Trying to empty my mind is difficult because I was worried I’d forget something important on my mental “todo” list. I walked from CC4 to Aq hall, and noticed that almost all the cars in the parking lot, roads, and sidewalks were covered with salt and dirt. I noticed most of the sidewalk had cracks covering them and the roads had a buildup of salt on the edges. The grass was exposed and looked completely dead with random patches of half decomposed leaves leftover from fall landscaping. As I approached Aq hall I could smell either the dumpster or the kitchen, I couldn’t tell which is was and that repulsed me. I was able to keep my mind empty untill I reached the door of Aq, after that reality hit that I had to get to class asap.

Memory Cards Available!

Written by mark lewis on February 24, 2008 – 9:20 am

I picked up 5 memory cards on Thursday and placed them in the loan pool. There should now be enough cards of sufficient size for the class. Keep me posted if you have a problem getting a card. You should be able to get at least a 512mb card with the camera.

BTW, the sun was great this morning at 7:30 am. I hope someone was out shooting, if not don’t miss the light at the end of today, it will be as good.

Maura’s blog post

Written by Maura on February 20, 2008 – 4:22 pm

As I walked from my house to campus emptying my mind was not as easy as I hoped. Today many different things ran through my mind but then I thought to myself, take a deep breath and concentrate on your surroundings. On my walk I noticed some aesthetically appealing things such as, the majestic Hudson, the beautiful mountains, and the gorgeous sun beaming off the water. The sky was crystal blue and as I started to look up at the sky I quickly turned away because my eyes started to hurt and I worried that I might trip. However, on my walk I also noticed some unappealing things like the run down housing and the trash along the streets. As I got closer to campus I noticed the usual Mount scene. Students either talking on their phones, texting, or listening to their i Pods as they remain diengaged walking across campus. I maintained this state of mind for ten minutes as I slowly walked to class. This exercise helped me clear my mind and relax for ten minutes.
